Santa Maria (1492)

The Santa Maria was the largest of the three ships used by Christopher Columbus on his first voyage to the New World in 1492. Along with the Pinta and the Niña, the Santa Maria played a crucial role in the expedition that led to Columbus’s European discovery of the Americas. The voyage marked the beginning of European exploration and colonization in the Western Hemisphere.
