Kano Eitoku Japanese Screen

Kano Eitoku was a renowned Japanese painter from the late Muromachi period and the early Azuchi-Momoyama period, celebrated for his large-scale works and distinctive style. He was a leading artist of the Kano school, one of Japan’s most influential painting schools, and is remembered for his contributions to the development of traditional Japanese art. One of his most famous works is the Japanese folding screen, or byōbu, which served as a decorative screen or room divider. These folding screens were often adorned with elaborate paintings depicting historical, mythological, or natural scenes, frequently influenced by Chinese styles. Although many Japanese folding screens have been lost over time, some surviving examples, including those attributed to Kano Eitoku, are considered national treasures and are highly valued for their artistic beauty and historical significance.
