Hubble Telescope

The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is one of the most significant observatories in the history of astronomy. Launched on April 24, 1990, aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery during mission STS-31, Hubble is a collaboration between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). It orbits Earth at an altitude of approximately 547 kilometers (340 miles) and is named after astronomer Edwin Hubble.
