Digestive System

The digestive system is responsible for the ingestion, processing, absorption of nutrients, and elimination of waste in the human body. It begins in the mouth, where chewing and salivation initiate the breakdown of food into smaller parts. The food then moves through the pharynx and esophagus into the stomach, where it is partially digested by gastric juices. From the stomach, the food passes into the small intestine, where the majority of digestion and nutrient absorption takes place. The large intestine absorbs water and electrolytes from the remaining food waste, forming feces, which are stored in the rectum until eliminated through the anus. The digestive system is essential for providing the body with energy and nutrients and for eliminating unwanted substances, playing a vital role in maintaining health and well-being.
